Welcome to the Alaska Coastal Rainforest Center!

Based at University of Alaska Southeast, the Alaska Coastal Rainforest Center is a collaborative environment designed to integrate science, resource management and communities by:

  • facilitating research projects that enhance our understanding of coastal temperate rainforests;
  • engaging in important conservation and management issues among academic institutions, government agencies, private businesses, nonprofit organizations and interested individuals; and
  • delivering information of educational value and importance to the people of coastal temperate rainforest communities.

BioBlitzCitizen ScienceWorkshop
BioBlitz teams of professionals and volunteers found 861 species in Southeast Alaska's Auke Creek Watershed in 24 hours!
The Alaska Coastal Rainforest Center is exploring the conceptual framework and need for a citizen science network in Alaska.  This work is in collaboration with Chip McMillan, Professor of Education at the University of Alaska Southeast.
Alaska Coastal Rainforest Center and the Southeast Alaska GIS Library sponsored a two-day workshop at the University of Alaska Southeast to understand and prioritize regional data needs in areas such as resource management and program funding.
